After doing the balancing act of carrying at least 10 cups of coffee from Secret Recipe on the ground floor, squeeze into the crowded lift while guarding the coffee with your life up to the 9th floor, used one foot to kick the conference door open as no one is gentleman enough to get up from their seats to hold the door, felt the great relieve that balancing on one foot with 10 coffees in hand is still possible, the tachycardia and adrenaline rush immediately resolve as the coffee hit the table just in time for the pre-op discussion.
Now, not even having the chance to breath the sigh of relieve, got told off straight away by the secretary that the Prof will only take Latte so remember to get a cup for the next meeting while she conveniently just sits there.
I went to 5 years of medical school so that I could get the whole team coffee single-handedly once a week. I want to use my cert to wrap Nasi Lemak already.
Secretaries are just too posh or wearing heels too high to be carrying coffees around. I miss those days where consultants show appreciation by treating us to coffee and not waste human talents like this.

I 'like' this post. My specialists and consultants are ok. But my registrar make us trace notes on a weekly basis (having to go to the record department and get it ourselves), get scan machine into OT, run to blood bank and get blood for transfusion, make a thousand phonecalls ask this ask that. and yes, buying the team breakfast. Just today, my friend and I were in the middle of settling 14 discharges and 6 admissions when they wanted us to get a patient's handphone to the OT. HOs apparently are so free tbat we can be ordered around and do anything and everything.
