CNY food post

Celebrating Chinese New Year at home felt just like yesterday. How I miss collecting Ang Pows. Hahahaha.

This beautifully decorated area which looks like a scene from a Chinese movie is actually in MidValley shopping centre. Very impressive.

Reminded me of my past where I used to make my parents follow the truck carrying the lion dance equipments and dancers cause I loved to watch the performance.

Pasta Zanmai - This unique restaurant chain serves fusion Japanese-Italian food. I ordered the Mini Hotpot Seafood Noodles with Crabmeat Tortilla Roll topped with Spicy Mayannaise. Delicious!

Attended RHBcap Market Chat. The atmosphere felt like I was in a real stock market looking at all the live charts. Got a lot of tips and pointers to adjusting my portfolio.

Thanks to my colleague LC, we had Malaysian version of Western food at Gaga roadside stall. Really delicious pork chop for just RM 10.50. Had my first drink of Cincau since I got back.

Pork noodles at Petaling Jaya.

I'm still searching for Japanese buffet around my area cause I miss Japanese food. Malaysian sushi is still much nicer as compared to the Tesco in UK as they use authentic Japanese rice even if it's sold at supermarkets. Had too much of Wasabi at one point that I almost cried.

The Loaf - Tried the newly introduced Tuna Bun topped with olives for RM 1.60 each. So cheap as compared to the usual price of RM 3.20. There was Croque Monsieur available too but I didn't try it.

My grandmother came to stay with us for a few days over Chinese New Year and she enjoyed tasting all sorts of food including the previous Tuna Bun. I even cooked Babi Pongteh, a Baba Nyonya dish for her to try. That piece of pork was put to great use as my practice area for suturing. Hahaha. No worries, STO (sutures to open) was carried out prior to cooking.

This afternoon, after my half day at work, we went to the corner shop at Petaling Jaya for lunch. The food there was reasonably priced and delicious! I really like the Dried version of Yee Mee which had enough topping on it and the sauce was just nice. We tried the wrapped popiah with seaweed which was something different.

I was really proud of myself yesterday cause I did my first lumbar puncture successfully on first try under supervision from my nice MO. It was my prof who gave me that opportunity even though I was quite nervous about it at first and didn't expect her to be so confident of me. Really, I will definitely miss PICU after moving to orthopaedics next. Who knows I will be carrying manipulation under Bier's block for Colles' fracture or even amputations. Hmmmmm.....

I'm still yet to have my beef noodles cause it's so difficult to find beef in PJ as most Chinese are Buddhists here. At least there's no recurrence of that same dream of searching for beef noodles in my dreams.

I wished I had more holidays

Started oncall on Sunday, first day after my 4 days leave for Chinese New Year, with 3 exchange transfusions, 2 times for the same patient and another time on a new admission which came in the middle of the night. Didn't even get to rest. All the work was non-stop till Monday and I went home totally drained.

Tuesday, I was almost forced to go oncall as someone took emergency leave. Was too tired and too busy on the ward. Luckily didn't have to go oncall. Managed to sneaked home at 8.30pm. Seriously, I don't know how can people function that long hours and not make mistakes. I get so irritated when we complain and the seniors will answer with, 'Back in the days when I was a house officer.......'. Times have changed and I rather get treated by a well rested medical personnel then someone who is struggling to stay awake.

The eczema on the back of my hands are getting bad again. They have improved tremendously over the 4 days of rest that I had over CNY. All that recovery down the drain. I have been wanting to seek medical treatment but just don't have the time. The irony!

Was thrown to another ward to help out today as one of the senior HO was on emergency leave leaving a freshly started HO on the ward. Felt so frustrated as the patient's folders keep going missing and I wasted loads of time just trying to search for them. I think I ended up doing 2 house officers workload today. SO TIRED! I'm still wondering how was the house officer training in the past. It's just physically impossible to become that efficient and to care for that many patients without compromising some parts of care. Maybe their clerking was super duper brief at that time.

I miss the times before work. We're so underpaid and under appreciated. We live on passion to care for mankind alone!

Note: Do not consider a profession in medicine in Malaysia if you require food, water and rest to live.

Dreaming

'Let's go to have beef noodles. I know a shop which is famous for it along this street', as I enthusiastically led my colleague down the street.

We approached this rundown wooden shack with its low zinc roof  looking so out of place surrounded by modern shop lots and yet it so lively with customers having their meal, cooks preparing the dishes and waiters running up and down.

'Why don't we try this place instead of the corner shop down the road?', I asked my colleague and we made our way inside.

I counted my lucky stars as there were empty seats. Taking in the aroma of the boiling beef soup which was stimulating my saliva glands, I searched for the stall's owner to take our orders.....

Then, I opened my eyes, after all that walking and hunting for seats, I'd just turned 45 degrees from my initial sleeping position after hibernating post-call. Haih.....I was so close to having beef noodles and I could actually smell it!

That was how I started my 4 days leave for Chinese New Year with such a funny dream post-call. Hahahahahaha. Beef noodles anyone?

Gong Xi Fa Cai and may the year of the rabbit bring good luck to everyone!

Last oncall before leave

How i wished everyone is out of town with their kids. then i won't be that busy today till Wednesday morning. want to take leave also so difficult.

Sat in the ambulance for the first time yesterday but it was only for a short distance to bring a patient from A&E up to the ward. It's been crazy again recently but I'm glad that I'm on leave very soon. Hehehehe.

Gong Xi Fa Cai everyone!
