Oslo Day 1

Oslo, the capital of Norway was the place I visited for this summer. Lovely weather, but don't expect it to be as warm as Malaysia.

When Y3 and I got there, we went to the tourist office which is just right outside the main train station to get our Oslo pass. Oslo was the first place to introduce this tourist pass and it is really worth getting it considering the offers that comes with it for the price that you're paying. Oh yes. It is a rare thing to say that something is cheap in Oslo.

With our free transportation, we took the tram to our hostel, checked-in and off we went exploring the city.

Oslo is famous for its bronze statues. They're in abundance everywhere.

City hall. The Nobel Peace Prize ceremony is held in there every 4 years.

I still cannot figure out why Franklin Roosevelt's statue is placed halfway up the hill towards Akerhus Fortress and Castle.

On our way to the castle. It was such a lovely day! The view from the hill top was magnificent.

I could just sit there for a few hours if I didn't have limited time to explore the city. Really huge ships around.

The Akershus fortress. That does look like a toy cannon.

We were a bit disappointed by the Akershus castle. It didn't really look that impressive. All the effort of getting there.

What is the meaning behind this bronze work of art? Without women, men can't reach their full potential?

Follow me!

We made our way towards Johans gate which is the shopping street and on our way, we came across:

The most modern and sexy bronze statue in one of the parks. Most of the other female statues' 3 sizes are of the beauty standard of the past. In other words, more horizontally challenged. But in the past, having more curves was beautiful.

Can anyone tell me who this is? The restaurant behind do look really posh.

Chinese can be found in almost all of not every corner of the globe.

By the time we got to Johans gate, went into a few shops, felt the pinch and gave up on shopping, we were quite tired and the next tram back to our hotel was in 20 minutes. Yet, we decided to wait for it at that tram stop. I think we have analysed every statue and every crack of the building opposite the stop where we were waiting.

Dinner

We ate at this really nice pub called Doverhallen Bar & Restaurant near our hostel. The food was really delicious and the price was reasonable for Oslo. When I say reasonable, that's less than 200 kroners per person. I had stewed beef and Y3 had steak. We finished with hot piping apple crumble topped with fresh cream. I was quite glad that the portion of for in Norway is no where near Sweden.

Y3's sister and her collegue joined us that night. They were working in another part of Norway and came down to Oslo to visit. We went for supper after they've checked in.

F and I. We ate at this restaurant/ pub/ club place near our hostel. The music was seriously blasting away that is why I look like that in the photo. I don't want to be reminded by the choice of music I was forced to listen to.

Don't they look alike? So nice to be able to meet up with siblings on trips.

Next entry will be published soon. I promise. There's just too many storied to tell, to many places traveled, too little concentration to blog. hehehe.
